New to this…

Soooo I’m new to this whole blogging thing and learning about how to write stories for the Slice of Life Writing Challenge. Any who, I believe this is where my story begins.

I love the beginning of things. I think it’s just the Aries in me. Love to start new endeavors but not always the best at seeing things to completion. I’ve gotten better with this over time though (at least I think).

I’ve always loved writing. Reading and writing, something about words and how they look and sound, has always been a strength of mine. But now that I’m a grown up, a teacher, a mom, and maybe some other titles I can’t think of at the moment, I’ve gotten away from my two loves. Nowadays for my reading enjoyment, I obsessively comb through Facebook every day after work, as if it were my nightly newspaper. I read articles posted, watch goofy videos, catch up on  life events of friends and frenemies. I spend a lot of time on Facebook. The time I used to spend on reading actual literature, I’m reading Facebook posts. I  literally have my phone at my side and look at Facebook while I’m watching television. During my favorite shows, I’ll stay focused on the shows but as soon as a commercial hits, I’m back on the Facebook.

So there you have it fellow bloggers, I’ve confessed to you my Facebook addiction which has impacted how often I read and write for my own personal pleasure. I’m new to this blogging thing, but I’m hoping it will help me reconnect to a hobby that I enjoyed, and didn’t realize I missed until this very moment.

  1. It’s great to work muscles you haven’t worked in a while. Now you can read blogs on your phone instead. You’ll find they are very interesting. Sometimes I write about things I read on Facebook, so we can compare.

  2. I became addicted to Twitter several years ago. It did consume much of my time, but I honestly believe that I have made some wonderful connections and have grown as a teacher because of it. Slicing is another one of those adventures that helps me to grow as a teacher too. I think you find that also. Here’s to new beginnings!

  7. I swear you could be writing about me! I am the same, especially with Facebook. Sometimes I’ll tell myself that I’m on Facebook to find interesting articles about something I didn’t know, but who am I kidding? This being my second year participating in the challenge though, I can say that writing consistently has helped me to look for things in this world that I could write about…even if some of those things happen to be from Facebook. Good luck and welcome to this amazing community of writers!

  8. Seriously Facebook just eats up my time. I scroll through at night and I’m thinking, I should be sleeping, but I just keep scrolling. It’s awful. BLOG INSTEAD! Yay!
